Effective Link Building Strategies

Now that you are done with your the whole website layout, and added fresh, unique contents to it, the next step is to showcase your website to the public.

In order for the public to be able to discover your website, you need to develop links to it (from other websites). This is so that when search engines "spider" other websites, and discover your website's link there, they will visit your website and index your web pages in the search engine listings accordingly - So that people will be able to locate your website directly from the search engines.

Not only that, people can also visit your website via links that you have from these other websites.

In this post, I am going to share with you a total of 8 different link building strategies you can use to build up links to your websites.

1. Link Exchange With Related Sites

What you want to do here is to conduct a search using the major search engines to look for websites that are in the same niche as yours. And what you want to do is to send the webmaster an email to ask if it is possible for you to do a link exchange with him/her. What this means is that you will have a link to his/her site in yours, and vice versa.

That way, you can "piggy back" on those websites' to get traffic to yours (whenever someone who visit those websites click on the link to visit yours)

If possible, try to get some websites with domain names ending with either .org or .edu to link to your website - The reason is because websites that ends with.org or .edu are considered non-profit sites, and the search engines highly regard the websites that are linked to from such sites. And in turn, your websites will have a very good chance of being ranked well in the search engine listings.

2. Article Directories

You can have a link back to your website in these article directories in your author's bio, which will be included at the end of every article you submit.

So, what you can do here is to submit approximately 3 to 5 articles every single day (with articles relating to the subject of your website) to the top article directories. Some of the top article directories that I would highly recommend that you submit your articles to are EzineArticles, GoArticles, and ArticlesBase.

3. Social Bookmarking Sites

Social bookmarking sites are sites which people can sign up and add bookmarks of their favorite web pages. These bookmarks can then be made public and shared with others (meaning the public can access these peoples' bookmarks and visit the sites that they have added).

What you can do here is to sign up as a member for these social bookmarking sites (there are lots of them out there, but the more popular ones are Del.icio.us, Mixx, Reddit, StumbleUpon) and add each and every page that you have in your website to your list of bookmarks.

4. Press Release Sites

Press Releases are somewhat similar to articles - The only thing being that you need to write it in a news report form (rather than writing it as an article).

In layman terms, what you need to do to write press releases is to write about something in the niche topic that your website is about from a third party perspective, and write it in such a way that it looks like a piece of news that you read in your local newspapers.

How you can create links via these Press Releases is to have links to your websites within the Press Release itself. Make sure you do not have too many links to your website - Just 1 to 2 will do.

After you have written your Press Release, you need to submit to the Press Release sites, and some of them I would recommend are PRWeb and PRLeap.

5. Web 2.0

You can also make use of Web 2.0 site such as Squidoo, HubPages, Tumblr to share information about the niche topic that your website is about, and within each of these posts, you include links to your site.

One thing to note here though - Do not spam these sites with links to your website. By doing so will only get you banned from these sites. What you want to do is to include at most 2 links to your website in each informational post that you submit to these Web 2.0 sites.

6. Guest Blogging

Guest blogging simply means you submit a blog post on other peoples' website.

What you can do is to locate blogs/websites that are in the same niche as yours, and contact the webmaster telling him/her that you have some knowledge on the niche topic which is website is based on, and whether or not he/she would like some fresh, unique content to be published on his/her blog/website for free.

And what you can do to build links to your website in your guest blog entry is to either have 1 or 2 links in the blog post itself, or a link after the blog post, where you do a brief introduction about yourself, and also introduce your website in the process.

7. Commenting On Other Blogs

This strategy involves locating blogs that are in the same niche as yours, and what you need to do here is to comment on blog posts that the webmaster has put up.

You can either share your personal thoughts about what he/she has put up, or provide some additional information that was not brought up in the post itself.

Alternatively, if you already have a blog post or article written in your website with information that was not mentioned in the webmaster's post itself, you can include a link to that particular blog post or article in the comments section to share with the community.

8. Web Directories

Web directories are basically a website where you can find websites in all the various categories. You can add your website in these web directories such as DMOZ.

You can also manually add your websites in the major search engines and to do so, simply click on the respective links to add your website to the respective search engines.

There you have it, 8 different strategies that you can use to build links to your website. When used correctly, these links will help you drive massive amounts of targeted traffic to your website - And the best part is that you are getting these traffic for free!

Are there any other link building tips that you know which I have not listed in this post? If you have any, you are most welcome to share them with the community via the comments box below...
