Gregory P. Smith Lead Navigator & President
Hi motobltr

I remember the excitement I had as a child waiting for Christmas Day to arrive.  I had a large family with four sisters and a brother.  My parents did not have a lot of money, but they always insured there were presents under the tree and food on the table.

Family traditions are important. Again this year, my family will be here for the holidays.  One of the traditions at the Smith house is my grown up kids, their kids and the rest of the family spend the night at our house Christmas Eve. It looks like there will be 2 daughters, 2 son-in-laws, one son, 3 grand kids, possibly a mother-in-law and a dog or two.

After the kids go to bed, we stay up late playing games, play holiday music and eat way too much food.

I hope your holidays are as rewarding as mine.

Happy Holidays,
Signature 1

Are These Staffing Issues A Challenge For Your Company?
Every company faces the same basic staffing challenges. Of course, there are particulars for every industry, but these are a few things you can guarantee that you will need to deal with as a business owner, CEO, or HR professional.
Employee Turnover Rate
The turnover rate in your business will certainly depend on different factors. It is important to ask yourself if you have these things in place:
  • Management development program
  • Aggressive training program
  • Communications program
  • Employee feedback
Many people chose to leave their place of employment for a lack of one of these areas. Either they do not feel qualified for their position, or possibly they feel too qualified to do the job. Others struggle because they do not feel that their opinion is valued.
Work to get these areas covered in order to keep your turnover rate to a minimum.
Hiring Quality Staff
Most business owners say that they struggle to find the right staff for their position. Many applicants lack the skills needed for the job, and others do not have the right personality to fit in with the team.
You need to determine whether or not you have these things lined up in order to find and hire the best employees.
  • Do you have a clearly defined job description?
  • What is your hiring process? Is it organized and efficient?
  • Are your hiring managers able to spot top talent?
  • What has your company defined as an exceptional employee?
  • Have you benchmarked the position?
With these things in place, you have a better chance of identifying the best person for your company.
Staff Morale
Once you get the right employees in the door and keep them around, it is important to make certain office morale is top priority. A satisfied employee can quickly grow weary of the job if the conditions of the workplace go down.
Here are some things you should implement in order to keep the morale high or boost a low morale in the office.
  • Recognize employees for their contributions
  • Put a management plan in place
  • Conduct one-on-ones with each person
  • Empower employees to make decisions that will benefit the customers
When a staff member feels that they play an important role in the team, the morale in the company will go up.
Each of these areas should be addressed and tightened up to ensure that your business runs effectively.t

How To Increase Team Productivity
Employee goal setting increases employee productivity and profits because it builds a strong foundation of employees for business success. It gives an external focus that enhances performance culture and coordinated efforts among all employees.
Ultimately, it helps to provide a competitive advantage!
Employee goal setting tips:
  • Set goals that will tie employees into the success of the organization. Financial incentives and bonuses can be the basis to encourage hard work and teamwork among your employees. This will also show that you value your employees' contribution to the company's growth.
  • Set annually modified goals at the beginning of the year. This is a good way to start your new year and gives you performance indicators.
  • Set the goals with employees. Get employee input while goal setting and make sure the goals align with the overall company goals.
  • Make specific, measurable and attainable employee goals. Do not set goals that are too high or too easy for your employees to reach. Be specific and make sure the goals are measureable. See our previous article for examples.
  • Show consistency. Give the same goals to all employees with the same functions in your organization. Giving various guidelines for the same group of employees will result to resistance and rivalry (remember that you want your employees to work together for the company). You can also be held legally responsible for charges of discrimination.
  • Goals do not necessarily need to be associated with sales. It may still be necessary to practice cost cutting measures even when profit is good.
Other things to consider:
  • Create employee goal sheets
  • Facilitate team goal setting conferences
  • Align employees' goals with corporate goals, among others
These are customized performance management solutions that help you maximize employee productivity while simultaneously improving employee loyalty and morale.t
