Blogs were a way to communicate with other web surfers without having to have the technical knowledge for actually creating a web page. The blogs started out as online diaries, then progressed to topical blogs, and now you can find niche blogs and company blogs.
What makes blog unique and great for Internet Marketing is that usually a blog has a single topic or niche. So the people visiting and interacting on a blog are those that are actually interested in the topic or niche! Blogs by nature automatically weed out non-interested people, thus a blog is like laser-targeting an audience! A popular blog can create a lot of sales from blog traffic.
Previously you could only do this effectively through pay per click advertising. Normally, only the people interested in the advertisement would click on the ad. You only pay for those people who click on the ad, even though the ad could be displayed to 100s of people an hour, maybe only 10 click on it, you pay for only those 10.
Now you can get the same narrowing of your target audience with a blog. But the best part is that you can set up and have blogs for free from many hosts. You do not have to pay for the target audience that visits it. But you can control the topic and the items you can see related to the topic.
This is why you will see more and more blogs popping up everyday. Furthermore, you will start to see more and more blogs used for Internet Marketing purposes instead of just subject matter groups gathering on the Internet.
This is also why blogs could very well be the next internet craze for the Internet Marketer. You still have to drive traffic, but you have to do that with everything anyways. Using proper SEO, article marketing, and linking methods, you can drive traffic to your blog for free too.
