There are millions blogger in the world and most of them use free hosted blog. Some people think they can get money from blog fast. Unfortunately, they cannot any penny and they close the blog finally.
Most beginner blog use hosted blog or free blog. There are some free blog such : blogspot, blogsome, wordpress, vox, livejournal, xanga, blogs, and others.
Using free blog is enjoy but there are some weakness too. You can consider the pros and cons the host blog before open a blog.
Pros
1. Free
The free host blog is totally free so you can make dozen, hundreds, even thousand blog. Some blog host also provide premium or paid blog.
2. Easy to manage
Free blog usually has template and layout so we just need to write. If you can operate office, you can make a blog.
3. Friendly with Search Engine
A blogger tell that Blogspot is friendly with Google. Wordpress has good traffic too because your post will be displayed at wordpress.com and other wordpress blogger may visit your blog.
Cons
1. Poor of templates
Some free blog host provide limited template. Example Blogspot just provide two columns template; therefore, we must be difficult to put ads and other widget.
2. Limited monetizing
Some free blog restrict the blogger in monetizing. Wordpress is very strict that they do not allow any blog to monetize their blog. However blogspot allow you to monetize blog
3. Ownership
The owner of the blog is the hosting. The blogger cannot sell their blog.
4.Removing
If the blog has million views a day, the blogger usually remove the hosting to self hosting. Unfortunately, some free blog does not facilitate removing like blogsome. com and Vox. com.
5. Not friendly with social bookmark
Some social bookmark such as Yahoo Buzz and Digg do not accept article from free blog.
To me, free blog is useful for bringing some traffic. You can make dozen blogs that support your main blog.
