Speaker on Leadership, Resilience & Purpose

Welcome to another edition of the Navigator! Change has a way of showing up when we least expect it. Sometimes we choose it—a new job, a new goal, or a new opportunity. Other times, it chooses us. Throughout my career, I've learned that while we can't always control change, we can control how we respond to it. In this issue, I'd like to share a few thoughts on navigating change, leading through uncertainty, and finding purpose even when the path ahead isn't clear. Check out the hundreds of articles and blog posts on my website.

Life Punched You in the Face. Now What?

There are moments in life when everything seems to be going according to plan. Then, without warning, one event changes everything.

I know that feeling well.

After twenty years in the Army, years of speaking around the world, and building a successful business, I never imagined that cancer and devastating leg injuries would force me to relearn some of life's most basic tasks. Overnight, my focus shifted from achieving goals to simply getting through the day.

During those difficult seasons, I learned something I had overlooked for much of my life: strength isn't measured by how much you can accomplish when life is easy. It's revealed by how you respond when life doesn't go according to plan.

That lesson became one of the reasons I wrote Fish on Fridays. I wanted to share the stories, setbacks, laughter, faith, and unexpected blessings that helped me keep moving forward, even when I wasn't sure what the next step would look like.

Maybe you're facing a challenge of your own today. It may not be cancer or a physical injury. It could be the loss of a loved one, a career change, family struggles, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life.

Whatever you're facing, remember this: difficult seasons don't last forever. Keep taking the next step. Small steps, taken consistently, can lead to remarkable places.

Thank you for allowing me to share this journey with you. In future emails, I'll continue sharing stories from my life, lessons I've learned through military service and recovery, and a few behind-the-scenes moments from Fish on Fridays.

Until next time, keep moving forward—one step at a time.

Greg P. Smith

P.S. If this story encouraged you, I'd love for you to share it with a friend who could use a little hope today.

Testimonial

“Fish on Fridays will make you laugh, move you to tears, and leave you inspired. Greg P. Smith shares his remarkable journey with honesty and humility, offering a candid look at military life, family, faith, and resilience.

What stands out most is his unwavering commitment to service and the strength he drew from his values, even through life's greatest challenges. Mostly, it's important to understand the camaraderie he found despite all the obstacles and how he relied on his faith and values to get through it all. This is more than a memoir—it's a powerful story of perseverance, camaraderie, and hope.”
