Buy Backlinks รข€“ Why, How, Where and for the Best ROI

Whether you are new to search engine marketing, or a seasoned veteran, chances are you have entertained the thought of link building. This process can be confusing, time consuming, and very expensive if you don't have the correct gameplan. For this reason many turn to buying, or purchasing backlinks to increase their search engine rankings. This guide will explain when to buy, how, where, and for the best return on investment (ROI).

Is buying backlinks right for me / my website?

This question is asked daily by webmasters. The best way to gauge the answer is - Are you currently receiving a return on investment for your efforts? If not, if you obtain better rankings do your profit margins allow this to make economic sense? For instance, if you obtain a first place ranking but only 5 people a month search your phrase, with an average sale of five dollars, chances are this is not the best case scenario. Also, if you can write, or build links X per hour, then you should decide if your time is better spent doing other activities, or even perhaps another job (building links yourself that you could pay someone else $5 per hour goes against good business principles outsource tasks if your time is more valuable than the time it takes to perform the task).

Now, all situations aren't cut and dry. Some are futuristic goals, others are brand building, but let's continue...

I've decided to buy backlinks. How do I get started?

Congratulations. You are taking your hobby and turning it into an additional revenue stream. There are numerous ways to obtain backlinks. What you will really be "buying" is either the labor associated with placing the links, the content (vehicle) in which the backlinks are placed, or software programs related to creating backlinks.

Buying Content The Medium in Which Your Backlinks will be Placed

The internet is huge, but when you break it down to its lowest denominators you see a trend. Websites are forums, blogs, articles or some type of hybrid. In fact, content is the glue that keeps the internet together and gives it value. This is why search engines value 100% unique content.

When purchasing content (articles) most prefer 500 word or so topic specific posts. Buying content is not only a great way to place your backlinks, but great for building brand recognition and disseminating your information.

Ok, where do I place this Content?

A simple search engine search for article directory will yield hundreds to thousands of results. Places such as articlebase, ezinearticles, squidoo, hubpages, qondio and scribd are a few examples of public directories that allow content submissions with your backlinks embedded with html hyperlink text.

Search Engines look for diversity in link building, so it's better to have 100 articles across 100 websites, then 1000 articles on just one directory. Stick to the respected, aged public directories as the newer ones tend to go under (fail), eliminating your hard earned content and backlinks.

I've submitted to all the major public article directories but want more! Blog Sites are Next:

Ask and ye shall receive. Alright, now that you have submitted to the public directories, it's time to utilize public blog directories. These are commonly referred to as free blog hosting platforms because they allow users to have a voice on the internet with very little coding or design knowledge. The bonus for us is we can build up a network of blog 2.0 sites, and begin linking back to our websites.

A simple search for create a free blog will yield platforms such as blogger, xanga, wordpress, livejournal, and other results. There are over 150 free blog hosting sites, which typically allow html links embedded within the posts. It's very important to note that your initial posts should be of quality as administrators usually monitor the newer blogs for spam.

TIP: If you don't want to purchase additional content for YOUR personally owned blog web 2.0 sites, you can extend the life of your other content by rewriting, or "spinning" your content to appear more unique in the eyes of Google, Bing and Yahoo. The Best Spinner (TBS) is one of the better programs that handles this. Most article directories will not allow spun content, so it's best to save the rehashed versions for your blog sites.

The public directories and blogs are great but I want more volume

For this reason private directories have been created, that are nearly identical to the public options but make the process more guaranteed and scaleable, albeit a monthly fee is usually involved. Some of these networks require 100% unique non spun content such as Build My Rank, LinkVana, or a LinkaMotion. Others allow spun content, to help increase your ROI such as Article Ranks, Article Marketing Robot, Authority Link Network, and SEO Link Vine. Then there are other options for guest blogging where you can submit original or spun work with Guest Blog Hog.

Programs Let's start automating link building tasks:

Manually building links is tedious. Tools can speed up the process.

SEnuke helps submit to about 20 of the web 2.0 blog hosting sites, which can free up time for the ones that aren't supported by the software.

Scrapebox can add comments on blogs that accept them, generating over 100,000 comments/ backlinks dependent on the quality of the users database.

BMD Bookmarking Demon automates the process of social bookmarking, which is basically a modern day directory with the added social features of voting and commenting.

LFE Link Farm Evolution with WPMU sites, gives you the ability to post your content on other peoples SHWP sites (self hosted wordpress sites), obtaining backlinks from private users otherwise not available. A good wpmu database is essential as well.

Xrumer registers to thousands of forums, with the ability to drop your link in a thread/post, or forum profile.

The major thing to note about software programs is they have a learning curve, usually a monthly fee (or high one-time fee), and they are merely a tool to obtain backlinks, not necessarily the end all silver bullet.

Advanced buying backlinks not worried about content, syndication or programs

The goal of buying backlinks is to increase your search engine rankings. It's a game of ROI. Typically low quality backlinks such as forum profiles are being devalued. Pagerank is still the standard by which a link can be judged, and nothing beats homepage contextual backlinks (a link on the top level page of a domain).

To obtain this requires you to build a network of websites by purchasing older, trusted domains via a registrar such as Godaddy and setting up hosting, plugins, and content creation. Terry Kyle and Matt La Clear are one of the better known high pr domainers.

Blogging: The last article you'll ever need for making money from your blog

Now that you have chosen your domain name and hosting, you are going to want to start getting ready to monetize your blog. There are many different ways to monetize your blog and I am not going to cover them all. I will just cover the ways that will make you the most money with the least effort. Let's start making money blogging!

Google Adsense

Adsense is the easiest to set up and will make you money without having to sell anything. Adsense will pay you for impressions of their ads on your site. Basically, every time an Adsense ad loads for one of your viewers, you make a small amount. You will make more money if the ad is actually clicked and if items are actually purchased, but there isn't too much you can do about getting people to do that on your site. It is like the Field of Dreams, "If you build it, they will come" the more hits your site gets, the more it will happen. A lot of blogs make really good money on Adsense alone, but they are getting tons of hits (which I will teach you how to do) so <strong>don't be discouraged</strong> if your earnings sit at $0.45 for a while. To set up adsense, just go to www.google.com/adsense and fill out the required forms. Once it is all set up, you can make ads that can be placed anywhere on your page. The Wordpress plugin I use for adsense is <a rel="nofo llow" onclick="javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/4421769']);" href="http://www.linewbie.com/wordpress-plugins/all-in-one-adsense-and-ypn">All-In-One Adsense and YPN.</a> I tell it what ad sizes I want and based on that, it randomly inserts adsense throughout my page. It is totally customizable and has worked great so far.

ClickBank

ClickBank is where a lot of people are making tons of money right now. It allows you to create an account, find products related to your niche and promote them. Some of the ads pay as much as 75% commission per sale. For beginners, all you have to do is find a product you like and click promote. Clickbank will create a customized link with your affiliate id in it so it can track when someone buys a product from your link. A lot of products have their own affiliate section, where you can log in and find premade banner ads, twitter responses, and emails to help you sell the product. You can choose to use those or write your own, either way, <strong>you'll be making a lot of money!</strong>

Commission Junction

Commission Junction works pretty much the same way Clickbank does, it just offers different items. Clickbank has more digital items and Commission Junction has more tangible items. Commission Junction has a lot of recognizable brand names like GoDaddy, Carbonite, 1-800-Contacts, but generally offers lower commission percentages. It can even out though, because the brand names have more recognition and are perceived as more trustworthy because of their recognition. So someone may be more likely to click your ad. So I like to mix it up and promote from both sites.

Amazon

While it is a little, different, it is worth mentioning that amazon also pays commission for referring people who buy products. They even allow a way to set up a store where you own the website, but when someone clicks buy, it takes them to Amazon to handle the shipping and credit cards and everything. You make 4%-15% of the sale price, using a performance based sliding scale. The more you sell, the bigger your commission. This can be useful if there is a particular item that is relevant to your blog. For example if you wrote a running blog, you could create an ad for each individual item. The reader could then go to Amazon and purchase that item and you would get credit for the sale. This method is not as commonly used in blogging, it is more often used when creating niche stores (which I will explain in another post.)

No Leakage

Michael Dunlop at The Income Diary has a "No Leakage Rule." This rule means that any link leaving your site should make you money. Never link to a product unless you make commission from it. While getting your site linked on other blogs can get you traffic, a lot of times they are direct competitors so be careful.

Summary

Now you have a few good ideas for starting to make money from your blog. You don't have to choose only one of these and I would recommend you do not limit yourself like that. I would recommend you get a few good products from each and start promoting. Wait until you have about 100 clicks on each product before you decide it doesn't work and move on to another. Eventually, when your blog becomes popular and is consistently getting thousands of hits a day, advertisers will want to pay you directly for your ad space. But for now, just focus on creating new, valuable content that will keep users coming back.
