How to Keep Your Blog Readers Coming Back for More - Internet

For many websites, a blog is the main connection between you and your audience. Its how you drive traffic to your website. Whether you make money based on them just being on your website for ad impressions or you are looking to up-sell products and services, its crucial that your blog readers are repeat customers. Here are some basic rules to live by to keep readers coming back for more:

Post Regularly

This little piece of advice is the cornerstone of any successful blog. The reasons are simple: people like regular blog updates and search engines like regular blog updates. People want to know that new information will be available to them on a regular basis.

The frequency with which you post to your blog will depend somewhat on the niche business you are in, so use common sense. But a general rule to go by is at least one or two posts a week.

Let Your Personality Shine Through

Just as you should be yourself in social situations (who likes a poseur?), act naturally in your blog posts. Of course, discretion is needed depending on what business you are in. If you're blogging for a lawyer website, you don't want to use hipster street language just like you wouldn't want to be formal if you are talking about celebrity culture or the movie industry.

Do Series Posts

Did you ever wonder why mom stayed glued to her soap opera every afternoon when you were a kids? Because it was a series, each episode linked to the other. If you want to maintain a loyal audience for your blog, consider doing occasional series blogs, when the moment presents itself. Often, a subject will cry out for the idea anyway.

Offer an RSS Feed, Promote It

If you want your blog series posts to work, it's best to let people know that they can subscribe to your blog through an RSS feed. It's an easy way to remind them that the next post has arrived, not to mention it's a great way in general to make them repeat readers.

Use Social Media

Social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook are a great way to "tap your readers on the shoulder" as a reminder that your blog is being updated on a regular basis. Remember, you have heavy competition for people's time. Even if they intend on reading your blog regularly, life is filled with distractions. Friendly social media updates give them a little reminder that you still exist. It's also a great way to find new readers.
